The key element in ensuring your project meets the airtightness requirement is to plan for airtightness at the initial design stage.

Design Reviews.

We have experienced staff who can carry out an independent review of the airtightness barriers in the building envelope, or provide advice to the design team. Design reviews can help you meet the AD L2, or your client's air permeability target without the problems and additional costs of remedial work and re-tests that may arise.

A design review is best carried out by an office based desk review of the envelope drawings and any relevant sub-contractors drawings. Using our experience we will advise you on areas requiring upgrading. We can also attend design meetings, as required, to discuss airtightness issues.

Very Large Buildings.

If your project is very large such that it is impractical to carry out an air test on the completed building, we can help you meet AD L2 air permeability compliance by non-testing means. Our staff have experience of obtaining Building Control Approval for very large or complex buildings by working closely with the design team throughout the project.

Construction Phase Inspections.

During the building's construction we can carry out checks on the formation of the air barrier elements. The number of visits we recommended is dependant on the size of the building and of the complexity of the air barriers. During a site visit any areas requiring upgrading or improving will be highlighted on site and details plus photographs incorporated in a report.

Pre-test Inspection.

We can visit the site prior to the fan pressurisation test to give you peace of mind and carry out a final check on the building. Also, it gives us an opportunity to ensure that you are aware of what is involved with the air test.
