Webb Sciences Ltd staff have experience of carrying out energy and water surveys of all building types and most industrial sectors.

After salaries, expenditure on energy and water represents one of the main overheads for most organisations. Energy prices are now rising, with a increase of at least 20% upon contract renewal being typical.   For those companies with Climate Change Levy discount agreements, the penalties for failing to meet carbon reduction targets can be considerable.

Ensuring that energy and water is being used efficiently has never been more important to the commercial performance of any organisation.

The purpose of an energy and water survey is to identify cost effective opportunities for reducing consumptions and costs, while maintaining reasonable comfort conditions (buildings) or satisfying process requirements (industrial).

Saving Opportunities.

Experience has shown that surveys of commercial buildings normally identify saving opportunities equating to 10-20% of annual expenditure; for the industrial sector the comparable figure is 5-15%. Of these savings at least half can generally be implemented without capital expenditure.

Brief.

We offer guidance in the development of a survey brief that is appropriate for your organisation. This may range from a non-quantitative review, based upon a visual inspection of your site, to a detailed quantitative analysis of purchasing arrangements; site measurements; details of plant and equipment loadings and performance; and quotations from equipment suppliers and installers.

Measurement.

When conducting a quantitative survey spot measurements of temperature and lighting levels along with combustion efficiencies would normally be undertaken. Consideration should also be given to installing temporary temperature and electrical monitoring equipment. The output from which can often prove invaluable when assessing system performances.

Tariff Analysis.

We will determine whether your energy and water is being purchased at the most advantageous tariff. Opportunities for securing improved tariff agreements are identified at 20-30% of sites.

Control Systems.

Working with your management team we will seek to establish the operational requirements of your organisation, e.g. comfort conditions, process temperatures etc. If necessary we will provide guidance as to the ‘best practice’ for your sector.

From an interrogation of your building and process control systems opportunities to make adjustments, develop strategies and investment in additional control equipment will be identified. Such measures tend to be particularly rewarding with investment schemes generally yielding a rapid payback period.

Plant and System Efficiency.

An assessment will be made the efficiency of your installed plant and systems. Then applying the financial criteria agreed at the outset of the survey, cost effective recommendations for replacement and refurbishment would be proposed.

Management.

Assistance and guidance can be provided in the creation of a management structure that will enable effective energy and water management practices to be integrated within the day-to-day operation of your organisation. Particular attention would be given to staff training requirements and the development of a suitable monitoring system, thereby ensuring future irregularities in consumption are rapidly identified and addressed.

Presentation.

It has been our experience that the most successful surveys include a debrief meeting. Not only does this provide us with the opportunity to present our recommendations and address any queries, but it also creates the ideal forum for you, the client, to formulate an action plan.
